CLUB LEADERSHIP
The purpose of this committee is to encourage clubs to develop a new club leadership plan based on the Australian developed structure, which has now been taken up and recommended by Rotary International.

The purpose of this committee is to encourage clubs to develop a new club leadership plan.

The Club Leadership Plan is the recommended administrative structure for Rotary clubs. It is based on the best practices of effective Rotary clubs. As each Rotary club is unique, the Club Leadership Plan is flexible enough to support the individual needs of clubs.

Streamlined processes, better communication, strategic planning, and increased member involvement will improve Club Service. With efficient operations in place, your club can become more effective in conducting its service activities. The Club Leadership Plan will allow your club to devote more effort to each Avenue of Service and reach the Object of Rotary.

It is not mandatory for any club to adopt the Club Leadership Plan, but every Rotary club, new and old, will benefit from standardising its administrative procedures based on these best practices that are proven in the commercial business world:

  • Develop long-range goals that address the elements of an effective club
  • Set annual goals that support long-range goals
  • Make sure that all club members feel involved and informed
  • Keep the lines of communication open, both in the club and with the district
  • Ensure continuity in leadership from year to year
  • Customize the bylaws to reflect club operations
  • Provide regular fellowship opportunities
  • Actively involve all club members
  • Offer regular, consistent training

The goal of the Club Leadership Plan is to create an effective club that pursues

the Object of Rotary, carrying out activities along each Avenue of Service.

Effective clubs are able to achieve the Object of Rotary by:

  • Sustaining or increasing their membership base
  • Implementing successful projects that address the needs of its community and communities in other countries
  • Supporting The Rotary Foundation through both financial contributions and program participation
  • Developing leaders capable of serving in Rotary beyond the club level

The Club Leadership Plan can help clubs:

  • increase their ability to meet their goals in each Avenue of Service
  • Implement successful service projects in the following service areas - Vocational, Community, and International Service
  • Increase membership resulting in more Rotarians to work in each avenue of Service
  • Support the Rotary Foundation that can deliver Community and International Service.

Benefits of the Club Leadership Plan

By providing an opportunity to reassess current operations, the Club Leadership Plan can help clubs realise many benefits:

  • All members have a chance to voice their opinions on the future of their club
  • Simplified club operations give members more time to focus on service and fellowship
  • Greater involvement of club members develops future club and district leaders
  • Membership retention rates increase as members have greater participation in the club’s activities
  • Club leaders have a larger group of members working to achieve the club’s goals
  • Continuity between appointments and the club’s goals eases the leadership transition from one Rotary year to the next
  • Renewed enthusiasm for Rotary comes from taking a fresh look at the practices and processes of the club.

The purpose of this committee is

  • to assist clubs in identifying and proposing prospective members,

  • to assist clubs in current membership development and retention plans

  • provide membership resources to clubs such as speakers and RI publications.

Each Rotary club strives for a membership that is an up-to-date and progressive representation of its community's business, vocational, and professional interests.

Membership in Rotary offers a number of benefits, including:

  • Working to make the community a better place to live and to work
  • Developing leadership skills
  • Gaining an understanding of — and having an impact on — international humanitarian issues
  • Developing relationships with community and business leaders

The prime responsibility of the committee is to deliver the Goal of 2010 members by 2010.

ROTARY INFORMATION
This committee is responsible for
  • This committee is responsible for
the dissemination of Rotary information to clubs and or the advising of where to source relevant Rotary information. The Rotary International website is the greatest resource for Rotary information. http://www.rotary.org/
  • assisting clubs in making the public more aware of Rotary and its programs.
  • advising and assisting clubs on effective public relations, information and community relations programs.

Public relations is an important aspect of Rotary service. Through the media you can build a relationship between Rotary and your community. The Committee will be able to provide access to some basic guidelines and tools to help your club achieve media success and other forms of community recognition. The Committee will also ensure that the District activities are promoted and recognised by the public.

ROTARY FELLOWSHIP COMMITTEE
To make Rotarians aware of the many fellowships within Rotary and to encourage participation

Rotary Fellowships offer Rotarians the opportunity to make friends with others in Rotary who share a common vocation, hobby or recreational interest.

A Rotary Fellowship is a group of Rotarians who unite themselves to pursue a specific worthwhile activity that advances the Object of Rotary, including, but not limited to educational, health, vocational, environmental and recreational activities. Fellowship activities must be conducted independently of RI, but must be in harmony with RI policy, including the use of the Rotary's names and emblems. Fellowships may not be used to promote religious beliefs, political issues, or other organizations. Recognition of a Fellowship by RI in no way implies legal, financial or other obligation or responsibility on the part of RI, or any district or club. A Fellowship may not act on behalf of RI, or represent or imply that it has authority to act on behalf of RI. Fellowships must be self-sustaining financially, administratively and otherwise. Fellowships may not exist or function in any country in violation of the laws of such country.

Rotary Fellowships should not be the best-kept secret in Rotary, but they are! There are over 70 different Rotary Fellowships. Each Rotary Fellowship focuses on a specific vocational or recreational discipline. Rotary Fellowships give Rotarians the opportunity to network with other Rotarians with whom they share interests. Fellowship is the foundation on which Rotary was built, and it is the source of Rotary's strength. THE FAMILY OF ROTARY
To care for each other, including the extended family of Rotary - alumni of each of our programs (Interact, Rotaract, RYLA, youth exchange etc), widows & widowers of Rotarians.

Friendship was the foundation, the rock on which Rotary service was built. The Family of Rotary Committee will encourage clubs to care for Rotarians, their families, and members of the larger Rotary family, thereby strengthening clubs and instilling a sense of integrity, tolerance, and unselfishness in the next generation.

Specifically, the family of Rotary is:

  • Rotarians’ family members
  • Spouses
  • Widows and widowers
  • Children
  • Grandchildren
  • Other relatives

The larger Rotary family includes:

  • Our neighbors in other clubs and districts around the world
  • Rotary Foundation alumni
  • Group Study Exchange members
  • Rotary Youth Exchange students
  • Rotaractors
  • Interactors
  • RYLA participants
  • Inner Wheel and other spouse groups
  • Global Networking Groups (Rotary Fellowships & Rotarian Action Groups)

Supporting family of Rotary is of critical importance because it:

  • Builds lifelong friendships
  • Enhances our personal families’ relationships
  • Builds world understanding and peace
  • Improves international solidarity and tolerance
  • Contributes to membership growth
  • Contributes to diversity of age, gender, race, ethnicity, culture, religion, and profession
  • Improves Rotary’s public image
  • Strengthens clubs and the commitment to service

Quote from 2006-2007 RI President William B. Boyd:

Rotary is an organization of people who care — about their homes, their communities, and each other. And caring is what family is all about.
A key idea of the family of Rotary is that it encompasses the family of every Rotarian — spouses, widows and widowers, children, and parents. Rotary was never designed to take club members away from their families. Instead, it should be a force that brings them together. Through programs such as Rotaract, Interact, and Rotary Youth Exchange, we work to bring a new generation into the spirit of Rotary service. Through our emphasis on the family of Rotary, we work to ensure that no one in the organization is ever left behind.
